Youth Worker

Responsibilities

• Provide direct support and mentorship to children and young people in a residential care setting
• Create a safe, homelike environment that supports youth to thrive
• Assist young people in developing key life skills, including independent living and problem-solving
• Support children and young people in navigating complex, pain-based trauma behaviours with empathy
• Build positive, appropriate relationships through active engagement and visible interest
• Assist with activities of daily living, including personal care when required
• Maintain an understanding of the importance of family and kinship connections for those in placement

Requirements

• Experience supporting children and young people who have experienced childhood trauma or have a disability
• Ability to build positive relationships with youth
• Willingness to work a roster that includes afternoon, overnight (sleepover), and weekend shifts
• Current Provide First Aid (HLTAID011) certificate
• Current driver's licence
• Ability to clear probity checks, including National Criminal History, NSW Working with Children Check, and NSW Residential Care Workers Register check

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with young people living with autism spectrum disorder
• Previous experience working within a residential care setting
