About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide direct support and mentorship to children and young people in a residential care setting
- Create a safe, homelike environment that supports youth to thrive
- Assist young people in developing key life skills, including independent living and problem-solving
- Support children and young people in navigating complex, pain-based trauma behaviours with empathy
- Build positive, appropriate relationships through active engagement and visible interest
- Assist with activities of daily living, including personal care when required
- Maintain an understanding of the importance of family and kinship connections for those in placement
Requirements
- Experience supporting children and young people who have experienced childhood trauma or have a disability
- Ability to build positive relationships with youth
- Willingness to work a roster that includes afternoon, overnight (sleepover), and weekend shifts
- Current Provide First Aid (HLTAID011) certificate
- Current driver's licence
- Ability to clear probity checks, including National Criminal History, NSW Working with Children Check, and NSW Residential Care Workers Register check
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with young people living with autism spectrum disorder
- Previous experience working within a residential care setting
