Youth Care Practitioner

Responsibilities

• Provide care and support to young people in a safe and nurturing environment by meeting physical, emotional, social, health, and educational needs
• Establish safe, containing relationships and act as a positive role model
• Participate in creating and implementing risk assessments and placement plans
• Maintain a clean, secure, and stimulating living environment
• Uphold safety protocols, de-escalate conflict, and respond to challenging behaviors
• Champion the rights of young people and encourage self-expression and decision-making
• Maintain accurate and confidential documentation of progress and incidents
• Collaborate with families, social workers, and healthcare professionals
• Assist with domestic tasks and food preparation as required

Requirements

• Understanding of the needs of young people and child development factors
• Experience working with young people in a voluntary or employment capacity
• Ability to undertake HNC + SVQ 3 Social Care
• Ability to undertake training in Behaviour Management and Physical Intervention
• Full Manual Driving Licence
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to remain calm and resilient under pressure

Preferred Qualifications

• Existing HNC in Social Care or SVQ Level 3 in Children and Young People
• Knowledge of Trauma-Informed practice and Attachment theory
• Experience in residential childcare or youth work
• Knowledge of childcare legislation, GIRFEC, and child protection protocols
