About the role

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of workers’ compensation lost time claims from initial setup to case closure
  • Conduct ongoing investigations by obtaining facts and taking statements from insureds, claimants, and medical providers
  • Evaluate investigation facts to determine claim compensability
  • Administer statutory medical and indemnity benefits throughout the life of the claim
  • Set and manage reserves for medical, indemnity, and expenses within authority limits
  • Work with attorneys to manage hearings and litigation
  • Control and direct vendors, nurse case managers, and rehabilitation managers on medical management and return-to-work initiatives
  • File necessary workers’ compensation forms and electronic data with states to ensure regulatory compliance
  • Refer appropriate claims to subrogation to maximize recovery opportunities

Requirements

  • Claim adjuster licenses in Connecticut (all casualty lines), New Hampshire (workers’ compensation), Rhode Island (workers’ compensation), and Vermont (workers’ compensation) are required (candidates may have up to 3 months to acquire these)
  • Knowledge of workers’ compensation statutes, regulations, and compliance
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products
  • Strong analytical, communication, and time management skills
  • Experience working in a customer-focused, fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a lost time workers’ compensation claim examiner
  • Experience in healthcare, short-term/long-term disability, or general liability claims
  • Prior insurance, medical billing, or legal experience
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and bill processing
  • AIC, RMA, or CPCU completed coursework or designations
