About the role
Responsibilities
- Assist instructors in preparing the lab environment, including setting up materials, tools, and equipment for daily classes
- Maintain and clean lab machines, tools, and workspaces to ensure a safe and orderly environment
- Monitor inventory of tools, materials, and consumables, assisting with organization and restocking
- Support students during lab sessions by answering basic questions and helping locate resources
- Perform basic maintenance tasks such as oiling machines, checking fluid levels, and reporting mechanical issues
- Promote safe practices in the lab, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Assist with machine setup and demonstrations under instructor guidance
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in machining or manufacturing-related coursework at DMACC
- Foundational understanding of machining processes, including manual and CNC equipment
- Ability to assist with the setup and maintenance of tools, machines, and lab materials
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with instructors and students
- Demonstrated organizational and time-management skills
- Basic computer skills and the ability to take initiative in a lab setting
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with CAD/CAM or CNC software
- Prior experience in a tool and die shop, machine shop, or educational lab environment
