Work Study - Tool and Die Lab Assistant

Responsibilities

• Assist instructors in preparing the lab environment, including setting up materials, tools, and equipment for daily classes
• Maintain and clean lab machines, tools, and workspaces to ensure a safe and orderly environment
• Monitor inventory of tools, materials, and consumables, assisting with organization and restocking
• Support students during lab sessions by answering basic questions and helping locate resources
• Perform basic maintenance tasks such as oiling machines, checking fluid levels, and reporting mechanical issues
• Promote safe practices in the lab, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Assist with machine setup and demonstrations under instructor guidance

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in machining or manufacturing-related coursework at DMACC
• Foundational understanding of machining processes, including manual and CNC equipment
• Ability to assist with the setup and maintenance of tools, machines, and lab materials
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with instructors and students
• Demonstrated organizational and time-management skills
• Basic computer skills and the ability to take initiative in a lab setting

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with CAD/CAM or CNC software
• Prior experience in a tool and die shop, machine shop, or educational lab environment
