Wind Technician

Responsibilities

• Perform wind turbine mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical component maintenance, repair, and replacement
• Troubleshoot complicated mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems on variable pitch, variable speed wind turbines
• Assist in the training and development of lower level operation and maintenance personnel
• Read and understand electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
• Use electrical test equipment to assist in troubleshooting and testing
• Lead maintenance and troubleshooting crews as necessary
• Safely perform LOTO and mentor lower level technicians in LOTO
• Perform balance of plant and switchyard work as required
• Document all work performed, parts used, and time spent using computer-based service reporting procedures
• Maintain hand tools and operate service vehicles

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED (or willing to obtain within 6 months)
• Ability to climb towers unassisted up to 300 feet
• Ability to work safely in confined spaces and adverse climates
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record
• Demonstrable mechanical aptitude
• Ability to travel as required
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
• For Level I: Basic electrical knowledge and ability to work with electrical wires
• For Level II: Associate’s degree and 6 months turbine experience, or HS/GED and 1 year wind turbine experience
• For Level III: Associate’s degree and 2 years turbine experience, or HS/GED and 3 years wind turbine experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in SAP
• Ability to read schematics and wiring diagrams
