About the role
Responsibilities
- Plan and administer activity programs developed by care teams to meet the diverse needs of complex continuing care patients
- Lead activity programs for both individuals and groups
- Promote the benefits of activities to patients to encourage participation
- Ensure patient safety during activities, including monitoring environmental safety and patient equipment
- Provide feedback to the interprofessional team regarding patient participation, responses, and any unusual behaviors
- Participate in program development and decision-making processes
- Maintain compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and patient safety responsibilities
Requirements
- Post-secondary Diploma in Recreation and Leisure Studies or a related degree
- Experience planning and administering activities for residential complex care populations, specifically those with cognitive impairments and complex behavioral needs
- Knowledge of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Infection Control, and Risk Management
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) at the Health Provider Level
- Proficiency in English, both written and verbal
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working within an interprofessional team environment
- Ability to facilitate and work effectively with volunteers
- Knowledge of health policies and legislation
- Proficiency in office computer applications and databases
