Welder I

Responsibilities

• Perform metal arc welding on ladder components, torque boxes, and miscellaneous parts for custom fire apparatus
• Execute proper fixturing and setup for welding tasks
• Use hand tools, sanders, and grinders, and operate equipment such as plasma cutters, torches, and iron saws
• Build components according to blueprints, shop orders, and weld symbols
• Perform tack welding and sand/grind welds to meet quality cosmetic standards
• Maintain a clean and safe work area, complying with all PPE and safety regulations
• Communicate with department leaders regarding part inventory and restocking needs

Requirements

• Ability to pass a Flat Weld Test in both aluminum and steel
• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and maintain physical stamina for standing, bending, and crawling
• Ability to read a tape measure and understand simple blueprints
• Willingness to work overtime and be cross-trained in different departments
• Ability to work in a noisy manufacturing environment
