Welder Helper

Responsibilities

• Perform track maintenance activities including repairs, installations, and component removals
• Support the repair, tempering, and cutting of rails, frogs, and switches
• Utilize load/unload devices to handle and transport track materials and equipment
• Monitor track conditions for defects and observe the right-of-way for safety
• Operate equipment to drive spikes, tighten/loosen track bolts, and use pullers
• Maintain the trackbed by replacing and compacting ballast
• Ensure compliance with all safety rules and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations

Requirements

• Minimum of 21 years of age
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
• Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) during the probationary period
• Ability to pass a Physical Ability Test (PAT)
• Ability to meet FMCSA medical requirements for commercial motor vehicle drivers
• Capability to perform physically strenuous work, including lifting up to 65 lbs and pushing/pulling up to 119 lbs
• Strong verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in Railroad Maintenance of Way work
• Experience working outdoors in diverse weather conditions
• Proficiency in operating heavy construction or farm machinery
• Welding proficiency or possession of a welding certificate
• Flexibility to work on-call, overtime, and various shifts including weekends and holidays
