About the role
Responsibilities
- Perform track maintenance activities including repairs, installations, and component removals
- Support the repair, tempering, and cutting of rails, frogs, and switches
- Utilize load/unload devices to handle and transport track materials and equipment
- Monitor track conditions for defects and observe the right-of-way for safety
- Operate equipment to drive spikes, tighten/loosen track bolts, and use pullers
- Maintain the trackbed by replacing and compacting ballast
- Ensure compliance with all safety rules and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations
Requirements
- Minimum of 21 years of age
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
- Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) during the probationary period
- Ability to pass a Physical Ability Test (PAT)
- Ability to meet FMCSA medical requirements for commercial motor vehicle drivers
- Capability to perform physically strenuous work, including lifting up to 65 lbs and pushing/pulling up to 119 lbs
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in Railroad Maintenance of Way work
- Experience working outdoors in diverse weather conditions
- Proficiency in operating heavy construction or farm machinery
- Welding proficiency or possession of a welding certificate
- Flexibility to work on-call, overtime, and various shifts including weekends and holidays
