Welder

Responsibilities

• Weld and inspect large metallic structures and tooling for high-field superconducting magnets
• Set up welding processes, including determining correct equipment and methods based on specifications
• Read and analyze drawings and take detailed measurements to plan project layouts
• Perform hand or semi-automated welding in vertical, flat, and overhead positions
• Provide manufacturability feedback to design engineers regarding weld geometries and material selection
• Perform welding equipment qualification trials and troubleshoot manufacturing discrepancies
• Adhere to all safety procedures to mitigate industrial hazards

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as a welder working on large structural systems and tooling
• Documented training or certification in GMAW, GTAW, or SMAW
• Proven experience welding stainless steel
• Experience using the GTAW process to weld copper
• Strong blueprint reading and fabrication skills
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and perform physical tasks like stooping and standing for extended periods
• Dedication to safety in environments involving heat, noise, fumes, and high voltage

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in welding for pressure vessel, aerospace, or nuclear applications
• Experience with Electron Beam and Laser Welding
• Experience operating mechanized or automated welding equipment
• Strong mathematical and numerical calculation skills
• Ability to work unsupervised and manage time effectively
