About the role

Responsibilities

  • Determine appropriate welding techniques and procedures for applications and qualifications supporting EMD products
  • Generate weld procedure and welder qualification records
  • Resolve complex welding metallurgy issues and interpret material specifications
  • Identify, evaluate, and resolve non-routine welding engineering problems related to manufacturing and repair
  • Collaborate with design and manufacturing engineering counterparts to resolve joining issues
  • Provide technical support and direction to skilled labor and Weld Development Lab Technicians
  • Develop and manage material joining work plans, including schedules and resource requirements
  • Participate in meetings to support engineering, manufacturing, and program management, including supplier qualification reviews and audits

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Welding Engineering or Welding Engineering Technology (Degrees in Metallurgy or Materials Science with welding experience will be considered)
  • 6+ years of related experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Working knowledge of arc welding processes (GTAW, FCAW, SAW, GMAW, SMAW, or PTAW)
  • Experience with ASME Section III, ASME Section IX, NAVSEA, or Tech Pub welding codes
  • Experience working with carbon, alloy, and stainless steels, as well as nickel and copper-based alloys
  • US Citizenship is required due to DoD requirements
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degrees in Welding Engineering, Metallurgy, or Materials Science
  • Prior experience leading and mentoring other engineers
  • Experience with dissimilar metal welding
