About the role
Responsibilities
- Create and publish weekend graphics coverage using a range of visual forms including maps, charts, and diagrams
- Produce and edit news graphics quickly and iteratively for breaking news
- Guide a small team of visual journalists to cover major breaking news on the weekend
- Collaborate with journalists from Graphics and other newsroom desks
- Identify sharp visual angles and conceive new lines of reporting
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience producing and editing graphics, including mapping and visualization
- Deep familiarity with visual storytelling forms like charts, maps, diagrams, and 3-D modeling
- Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Figma
- Ability to identify visual opportunities quickly in a breaking news environment
- Nimble in learning new software and technologies
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to read and edit HTML, CSS, and Javascript (including Svelte)
- Familiarity with ai2html, web development, and data analysis techniques
- Proven track record of working both independently and on collaborative teams
- Strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills
