About the role
Responsibilities
- Deliver accurate, compelling, and understandable weather forecasts to viewers
- Provide urgent weather information and coverage during severe weather events
- Produce and deliver content across both television and digital platforms
- Deploy into the field to gather information and report live during weather events
- Plan, gather, and assemble news stories and special project assignments
- Work as a multimedia journalist to gather and edit video and sound without a photographer
- Coordinate with news managers and producers to develop unique enterprise angles
- Develop a network of sources to break significant news stories
- Contribute real-time pictures, video, and text updates to mobile platforms
- Maintain unwavering journalistic integrity and ethical standards under tight deadlines
Requirements
- Professional or schooling on-air experience handling breaking news and severe weather
- In-depth knowledge of weather science and forecasting
- Experience interpreting and translating high-powered radar data
- Proficiency with common television weather systems
- Ability to write clear, correct, and compelling broadcast copy
- Experience operating mobile transmission devices and latest news technology
- Ability to work in all weather conditions and handle high-pressure environments
- Valid driver's license and a clear driving record
- A demo reel is required for consideration
