About the role

Responsibilities

  • Operate, regulate, and monitor pumps, machines, and equipment to ensure efficient operation of water treatment plants, reservoirs, and pumping stations
  • Perform routine inspections, basic alarm checks, and report any equipment deficiencies
  • Read and record meter readings, prepare process calculations, and input statistics into the plant computer
  • Adjust chlorinators, chemical feed pumps, and valves to maintain correct dosages and plant operations
  • Collect process samples and perform analytical tests for operational parameters
  • Perform minor maintenance, chemical mixing, filter washing, and instrument calibration
  • Ensure plant security by following established directives for locking doors, windows, and gates
  • Assist with confined space entries and the unloading of plant chemicals

Requirements

  • 2 years of post-secondary education or 90 continuing education credits in an appropriate field
  • A passing grade on the Water Treatment and Water Distribution Operator in Training exam
  • Valid Class G Ontario driver’s licence and ability to meet the definition of a competent driver
  • Valid First Aid Certificate
  • Ability to work shifts, weekends, and in adverse weather conditions
  • Ability to pass a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC)
  • Physical capability to perform all job duties

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently possess or be eligible to attain a valid Class III Drinking Water Operator Certificate in Water Treatment Subsystems
  • Currently possess or be eligible to attain a valid Class IV Drinking Water Operator Certificate in Water Distribution Subsystems
