Water Safety Trainer

Responsibilities

• Instruct all aquatic classes, including the "United We Swim" second-grade aquatic program
• Operate aquatic events and serve as a certified official for all program-sponsored events
• Evaluate participant skill levels, grades, and eligibility for advancement
• Prepare weekly, monthly, and yearly calendars for aquatic events
• Assist administration with scheduling facility use, supervision, and security for events
• Maintain a safe and healthy work environment and oversee aquatic equipment care
• Write routine reports, correspondence, and interpret safety manuals and rule books

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Current First Aid and CPR Certification
• Ability to pass rigorous swimming and endurance skill tests, including:
• 50 yd. freestyle under 40 seconds
• 200 yd. freestyle under 3 minutes and 45 seconds
• 500 yd. freestyle under 10 minutes
• 60 ft. underwater swim without breaking the surface
• Ability to pass lifeguarding skills tests, including rescue tube towing and brick carries
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification
• Lifeguard Certification
• Experience participating in or assisting with aquatic competitions, lessons, or events
