Water and Wastewater Treatment Systems Operator

Responsibilities

• Operate sewage treatment, sludge processing, and disposal equipment
• Monitor control panels and adjust valves and gates to regulate flow
• Interpret meter and gauge readings and test results to determine load requirements
• Start and stop pumps, engines, and generators for filtering, settling, and aeration processes
• Maintain logs of operations and record meter readings
• Direct sewage-disposal workers in routine operations and maintenance
• Collect sewage samples and conduct laboratory tests using equipment like colorimeters

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• At least 3 years of experience operating water and/or wastewater systems
• Maryland (MD) Water Treatment (class T) and/or MD Wastewater Treatment (Class W5) license, or ability to acquire required licenses within 6 months
• Thorough experience with Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) operations and reporting
• Ability to pass a government background check
• Fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking)

Preferred Qualifications

• Class D1 Distribution System License
