VP Underwriting

Responsibilities

• Manage and underwrite a portfolio of large, complex national and international construction surety accounts.
• Support the Surety Director in achieving strategic goals, financial targets, and revenue growth.
• Make independent decisions regarding the acquisition of new business and the underwriting of existing business.
• Manage the dual underwriting process and assist other underwriters in their activities.
• Maintain the integrity of the overall surety portfolio and ensure accounts comply with the credit matrix.
• Act as a leadership resource, providing product, industry, and pricing training to the team.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with new and existing customers and producers.
• Travel as needed to manage account relationships and coach underwriters in the field.

Requirements

• 10+ years of surety underwriting experience.
• Advanced leadership and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels.
• Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities.
• Demonstrated ability to make difficult credit and producer management decisions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Legal or accounting experience.
