Visiting Assistant Professor

Responsibilities

• Teach up to seven courses per year across department tracks including Sports, Arts and Culture, and Social Justice
• Develop course content and materials in support of learning outcomes and departmental requirements
• Prepare, administer, and grade assignments and examinations in a timely manner
• Maintain appropriate office hours and provide timely communication to students
• Utilize instructional technology including Banner, Canvas, and Starfish to maintain accurate records of grades and attendance
• Maintain an appropriate level of scholarly or creative activity and service consistent with Visiting Assistant Professor status

Requirements

• Graduate degree in Journalism or a related field
• At least two years of effective teaching experience
• Minimum of five years of professional journalism experience at a major news publication, nonprofit newsroom, or media company
• Evidence of productive scholarship or creative work
• Proficiency in instructional technology and computer literacy
• Strong command of writing, editing, and research skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Terminal degree in Journalism or a related field
• Distinguished career in journalism with a minimum of 10 years in print journalism
• Experience teaching within an online learning management system
• Demonstrated commitment to the mission of Morehouse College and the intellectual development of students
