About the role

Responsibilities

  • Act as a continuing source of support for victims throughout the pendency of a juvenile delinquency case
  • Interview victims and witnesses and explain the juvenile delinquency process
  • Work closely with victims on cases including Family Conflict, Special Victims Unit, and Major Case Unit matters
  • Help to secure witness cooperation and coordinate court appointments
  • Assist victims in obtaining services including the Office of Victims Services
  • Arrange for transportation and interpreters for victims or witnesses
  • Accompany fearful victims/witnesses to court during testimony
  • Develop expertise in community resources to assist victims in navigating the court process
  • Complete monthly victim advocate forms and update electronic files

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree and two years of experience in community work, OR
  • High school graduation and six years of experience in community work, OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least one year of experience in community-centered activities
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Ability to travel throughout the City via public transportation

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and investigative skills
  • Strong critical thinking and logical reasoning abilities
  • Ability to multitask and function independently under tight deadlines
  • Ability to foster good working relationships with community-based agencies
