Vice President, Public Safety

Responsibilities

• Lead the Department of Public Safety in advancing a safe, welcoming, and responsive campus environment for all community members.
• Manage approximately 302 full-time staff across Operations, Administrative Services (Training and Development), and Technology Projects.
• Oversee an annual operating budget of $76 million.
• Supervise the effective deployment of approximately 300 contract guards and a cadre of 36 sworn Special Patrol Officers appointed by the NYPD.
• Build collaborative relationships with students, faculty, and staff to support a positive campus experience.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Minimum of ten years of progressive experience in Public Safety, Law Enforcement, or community engagement.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Public Safety and emergency response practices.
• Excellent strategic and operational abilities.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• A clear commitment to community caretaking as a core professional value.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree and at least five years of senior management experience.
• Experience in a higher education setting, specifically within a residential university campus in a major metropolitan area.
• Experience working with a unionized workforce and maintaining positive labor/management relations.
• Proven ability to motivate a large workforce and inspire trust and confidence.
• Skills in conflict resolution and creative problem-solving.
