About the role
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary legal advisor on contracts, employment law, governance, compliance, privacy, and nonprofit operations
- Draft, review, and negotiate vendor agreements, technology contracts, partnership agreements, and grant agreements
- Manage the organization's contract portfolio and review process
- Provide strategic leadership for the Human Resources function, including workforce strategy and talent management
- Advise leadership on employee relations, performance management, and workplace investigations
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws
- Lead enterprise risk management efforts to mitigate legal and operational risks
- Advise the Board of Directors on governance and fiduciary responsibilities
Requirements
- 10+ years of progressively responsible legal experience
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. State Bar
- Experience leading Human Resources functions or people operations
- Demonstrated experience managing people and teams
- Deep knowledge of employment law, nonprofit governance, and contract law
- Ability to travel overnight on a limited basis
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience overseeing HR operations within a multi-state workforce
- Experience supporting federal grants or federally funded programs
- Experience with contract lifecycle management systems
- Familiarity with privacy, cybersecurity, and data governance
- Familiarity with military and Veteran communities
