About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction and coordination for multidisciplinary teams in large-scale planning and development
  • Develop expertise regarding Queens' neighborhoods, political landscape, and key planning issues
  • Build relationships with governmental entities, community organizations, and business stakeholders
  • Evaluate the feasibility of future public-private development based on market realities and community needs
  • Conduct neighborhood-scale analysis of infrastructure, waterfront resilience, and development potential
  • Implement inclusive public engagement and outreach strategies
  • Manage consultant teams and coordinate cross-functional resources within NYCEDC
  • Lead project communication with City Hall, elected representatives, and agency stakeholders
  • Mentor and support the professional development of junior staff

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in urban/city planning, public policy, geography/GIS, architecture, or real estate
  • At least 7 years of relevant work experience preferred
  • Experience managing staff, projects, and multi-disciplinary workstreams
  • Strong understanding of Queens' built environment and economy
  • Experience with public planning and development approval processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for public speaking and technical presentations
  • Knowledge of urban infrastructure, land use, housing, and transportation
  • Ability to engage diverse communities using equitable approaches
  • Must reside in New York City within 180 days of hire
