Vice President, Head of Research and Platform Innovation

Responsibilities

• Define and execute the scientific strategy and long-term roadmap for FL110’s nanopore-based protein reading platform
• Lead multidisciplinary research teams across nanopore science, protein translocation, molecular engineering, chemistry, and computational analysis
• Set technical milestones, success criteria, and research priorities to advance platform performance
• Identify key technical risks and develop strategies to accelerate progress
• Partner with technology, engineering, product, and data science leaders to translate research into future products and instrument architectures
• Build external collaborations, contribute to IP strategy, and represent FL110 with investors and advisors
• Recruit, develop, and retain world-class scientific talent

Requirements

• PhD in biophysics, molecular biology, bioengineering, chemistry, physics, nanotechnology, or a related field
• 10+ years of scientific leadership experience beyond doctoral training
• Proven success leading multidisciplinary research organizations
• Track record advancing complex technologies toward scalable platforms or products
• Strong systems-level thinking and ability to integrate across scientific domains
• Ability to lead through ambiguity and make high-quality decisions under uncertainty
• Excellent communication, leadership, and team-building skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with nanopore technologies, single-molecule sensing, sequencing, proteomics, or microelectronics
• Background in life science tools, instrumentation, diagnostics, or platform technologies
• Familiarity with protein engineering, molecular motors, membrane proteins, or biological nanopores
• Experience leading programs spanning biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, and computational sciences
• Prior experience in venture-backed startups or rapidly growing technology companies
• Track record of building strategic scientific partnerships and generating intellectual property
