About the role
Responsibilities
- Partner with the Head of Government Affairs to execute the function's overall strategy
- Monitor and assess the impact of policy developments relevant to Ares and the alternative investment industry
- Anticipate and assess risks and opportunities within legislative, regulatory, and political realms
- Shape legislative, regulatory, and administrative policies affecting the firm
- Manage Ares’ membership and engagement with various trade groups
- Prepare briefing materials and presentations for policymakers, regulators, and investors
- Provide technical recommendations on regulatory proposals and collaborate cross-functionally to ensure firm-wide alignment
- Represent Ares at meetings with government officials, staff, and relevant industry forums
- Collaborate with Communications and Public Investor Relations teams to align government affairs with external messaging
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree is required
- 8-10 years of relevant experience working in or with legislative, regulatory, or executive branch agencies
- Proven experience in government affairs specifically within the financial services sector
- Experience writing comment letters, drafting legislative language, and developing policy viewpoints
- Detailed understanding of and established relationships with financial services policymakers
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Superior written and verbal communication skills with the ability to create content for diverse audiences

- Advanced degree such as an MPA, MPP, MBA, JD, or CFA
