Vice President, Federal Government Affairs

Responsibilities

• Serve as the enterprise leader for Gilead’s engagement with the U.S. federal government, shaping advocacy strategies and advancing corporate priorities.
• Advise senior leadership, including the CEO and SVP of Government Affairs, on federal legislative and regulatory risks and opportunities.
• Develop and execute a comprehensive federal government affairs strategy aligned with innovation, access, and public health goals.
• Build and sustain trusted, bipartisan relationships across Congress, the Administration, and federal agencies.
• Lead the Federal Government Affairs team, fostering a high-performance, inclusive culture and overseeing external consultants and lobbyists.
• Translate complex policy developments into actionable insights for business leaders and cross-functional partners.
• Manage the Gilead Political Action Committee and ensure compliance with all lobbying and ethics requirements.

Requirements

• 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in federal government affairs, public policy, or related fields.
• Proven success shaping federal legislative or regulatory outcomes.
• Established relationships across Congress, the Executive Branch, and federal agencies.
• Deep understanding of U.S. healthcare policy, including legislative, regulatory, and appropriations processes.
• Significant experience in the biopharmaceutical, biotechnology, or healthcare sector.
• Exceptional executive presence with the ability to advise senior leadership and influence a highly matrixed organization.
• Strong leadership skills with a track record of managing high-performing teams and external partners.
