Veterinary Technologist I

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care to sick, injured, or compromised mice to ensure animal health and welfare
• Perform physical evaluations and accurately identify common clinical conditions in laboratory mice
• Administer treatments to sick or injured mice and monitor their response to prescribed plans
• Maintain accurate and complete medical records and communicate findings to research staff
• Monitor mice in animal rooms to determine if enrollment in treatment programs or pathology is required
• Perform entry-level pharmacy duties, including order fulfillment, inventory maintenance, and sterilization preparation
• Recognize and report adverse events or instances of non-compliance

Requirements

• BS or AS in Animal Science or a related field, OR a high school diploma with 2 years of rodent experience
• Successful completion of Laboratory Animal Science and Genetics coursework
• Proficiency with software tools, including word-processing and spreadsheets
• Strong interpersonal skills for communicating across various levels of the organization
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including a rotational on-call roster for weekends and holidays

Preferred Qualifications

• Licensed Veterinary Technician (candidates with this license may be considered for a Veterinary Technologist II level)
