Veterinary Technician

Responsibilities

• Perform animal husbandry for multiple species, including health monitoring, treatments, and technical services such as blood draws and drug administration
• Maintain cleanliness of animal and procedure rooms across multiple sites
• Wash, sanitize, and sterilize animal cages, bottles, rack systems, and related equipment using automated washers and autoclaves
• Prepare clean, sanitized cages with appropriate bedding and supplies for animal care staff
• Communicate daily with clinical veterinarians and laboratory staff regarding animal health and welfare issues

Requirements

• Completion of a community college program in Veterinary Technology or a recognized equivalent
• One year of practical related experience or two years of on-the-job training
• Previous experience working within a laboratory animal facility
• Experience handling both rodents and larger animal species
• WHMIS training and proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
• Ability to lift 50 lbs and no known allergies to animals

Preferred Qualifications

• Registration with the Canadian Association for Laboratory Animal Science as a Registered Laboratory Animal Technician (may be obtained after employment)
