About the role
Responsibilities
- Perform animal husbandry for multiple species, including health monitoring, treatments, and technical services such as blood draws and drug administration
- Maintain cleanliness of animal and procedure rooms across multiple sites
- Wash, sanitize, and sterilize animal cages, bottles, rack systems, and related equipment using automated washers and autoclaves
- Prepare clean, sanitized cages with appropriate bedding and supplies for animal care staff
- Communicate daily with clinical veterinarians and laboratory staff regarding animal health and welfare issues
Requirements
- Completion of a community college program in Veterinary Technology or a recognized equivalent
- One year of practical related experience or two years of on-the-job training
- Previous experience working within a laboratory animal facility
- Experience handling both rodents and larger animal species
- WHMIS training and proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and no known allergies to animals
Preferred Qualifications
- Registration with the Canadian Association for Laboratory Animal Science as a Registered Laboratory Animal Technician (may be obtained after employment)
