Veterinary Technician

Responsibilities

• Provide technical clinical care for critically ill animals using life support techniques and intensive care equipment
• Administer medications, place intravenous catheters, and perform venipuncture, cystocentesis, and abdominal/thoracic taps
• Monitor anesthetized patients and maintain accurate records of vital signs, treatments, and medical notes
• Participate in or lead nursing rounds at shift changes to relay patient status and care plans
• Maintain ICU readiness, including equipment quality controls, inventory management, and emergency preparedness for CPCR
• Support emergency services through patient admission, assessment, and emergency stabilization
• Handle Class II drugs according to strict protocols, including dosage verification and record maintenance

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree or Associate's degree in veterinary technology, or CVT/equivalent
• Alternative: 3 to 7 years of experience in a working environment with similar duties (depending on the specific technician level)
• Ability to work a variety of shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
• Ability to answer phone calls after hours regarding department issues

Preferred Qualifications

• CVT, RVT, or LVT certification (Registered or Licensed Veterinary Technician)
• Additional years of applicable experience in intensive care or emergency settings
