About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide technical clinical care for critically ill animals using life support techniques and intensive care equipment
- Administer medications, place intravenous catheters, and perform venipuncture, cystocentesis, and abdominal/thoracic taps
- Monitor anesthetized patients and maintain accurate records of vital signs, treatments, and medical notes
- Participate in or lead nursing rounds at shift changes to relay patient status and care plans
- Maintain ICU readiness, including equipment quality controls, inventory management, and emergency preparedness for CPCR
- Support emergency services through patient admission, assessment, and emergency stabilization
- Handle Class II drugs according to strict protocols, including dosage verification and record maintenance
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or Associate's degree in veterinary technology, or CVT/equivalent
- Alternative: 3 to 7 years of experience in a working environment with similar duties (depending on the specific technician level)
- Ability to work a variety of shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to answer phone calls after hours regarding department issues
Preferred Qualifications
- CVT, RVT, or LVT certification (Registered or Licensed Veterinary Technician)
- Additional years of applicable experience in intensive care or emergency settings
