About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-level technical clinical care for critically ill small animals within a 24/7 intensive care unit and emergency service environment.
  • Perform technical procedures including medication administration, intravenous catheter placement, venipuncture, cystocentesis, and abdominal/thoracic taps.
  • Monitor anesthetized patients and maintain accurate medical records of vital signs, treatments, and procedures.
  • Maintain ICU readiness, including equipment quality control, inventory management, and stocking.
  • Support emergency services by aiding in the assessment and stabilization of incoming patients.
  • Handle Class II drugs according to strict protocols, including dosage verification and record maintenance.
  • Participate in nursing rounds and, for higher-level roles, instruct veterinary students and interns.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or Associate's degree in veterinary technology, or CVT/equivalent certification.
  • Alternative: 3 to 7 years of experience in a working environment with similar duties (depending on the specific technician level).
  • Experience in intensive care or emergency veterinary settings.
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, kneeling, and bending for prolonged periods.
  • Willingness to work a variety of shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) or equivalent certification.
  • Previous experience in a teaching hospital environment.
