Veterinary Technician Level I

Responsibilities

• Perform daily animal health evaluations and report abnormal findings to the ICM veterinarian
• Provide necessary treatments and technical support during surgeries as directed
• Support researchers with animal handling, restraint, sample collection, dose administration, euthanasia, and necropsy
• Document animal health abnormalities, diagnostic plans, and treatment records
• Administer the sentinel animal/colony health monitoring program and collect necessary samples
• Maintain inventory of clinical equipment and supplies, including isoflurane machines
• Maintain cleanliness of prep/procedure rooms and surgical areas according to SOPs
• Assist in training courses regarding the safe and humane handling of research animals

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in chemistry, biology, or physics, or completion of an animal husbandry program
• Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) or Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT)
• Ability to lift at least 25 pounds and frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds
• Availability for mandatory weekend and holiday coverage on a rotating basis

Preferred Qualifications

• One year of related experience in a veterinary or research setting
• Knowledge of various laboratory procedures and techniques
