About the role
Responsibilities
- Perform daily animal health evaluations and report abnormal findings to the ICM veterinarian
- Provide necessary treatments and technical support during surgeries as directed
- Support researchers with animal handling, restraint, sample collection, dose administration, euthanasia, and necropsy
- Document animal health abnormalities, diagnostic plans, and treatment records
- Administer the sentinel animal/colony health monitoring program and collect necessary samples
- Maintain inventory of clinical equipment and supplies, including isoflurane machines
- Maintain cleanliness of prep/procedure rooms and surgical areas according to SOPs
- Assist in training courses regarding the safe and humane handling of research animals
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in chemistry, biology, or physics, or completion of an animal husbandry program
- Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) or Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT)
- Ability to lift at least 25 pounds and frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds
- Availability for mandatory weekend and holiday coverage on a rotating basis
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of related experience in a veterinary or research setting
- Knowledge of various laboratory procedures and techniques
