About the role
Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians with patient care, medical treatments, and surgical procedures
- Monitor hospitalized pets, administer medications, and perform basic emergency care or CPR
- Perform routine in-house laboratory procedures, including specimen collection and handling
- Restrain animals in a safe, efficient, and compassionate manner during examinations
- Educate clients regarding veterinary care, preventive medicine, and post-procedure instructions
- Maintain accurate medical records, including vaccinations, procedures, and billing information
- Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments and maintain an organized operating room
- Manage pharmacy tasks such as calculating dosages, filling prescriptions, and labeling medications
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least one year of recent experience in a veterinary practice or medical environment
- Knowledge of veterinary medical terminology and procedures
- Ability to properly restrain animals and handle fractious or fearful patients
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs independently and more than 40 lbs with assistance
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and a commitment to client service
Preferred Qualifications
- Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) status
- Education equivalent to two years of college (pre-veterinary curriculum)
- 3+ years of recent experience in a veterinary practice with increasing responsibilities
