About the role

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians with patient care, medical treatments, and surgical procedures
  • Monitor hospitalized pets, administer medications, and perform basic emergency care or CPR
  • Perform routine in-house laboratory procedures, including specimen collection and handling
  • Restrain animals in a safe, efficient, and compassionate manner during examinations
  • Educate clients regarding veterinary care, preventive medicine, and post-procedure instructions
  • Maintain accurate medical records, including vaccinations, procedures, and billing information
  • Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments and maintain an organized operating room
  • Manage pharmacy tasks such as calculating dosages, filling prescriptions, and labeling medications

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least one year of recent experience in a veterinary practice or medical environment
  • Knowledge of veterinary medical terminology and procedures
  • Ability to properly restrain animals and handle fractious or fearful patients
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs independently and more than 40 lbs with assistance
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and a commitment to client service

Preferred Qualifications

  • Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) status
  • Education equivalent to two years of college (pre-veterinary curriculum)
  • 3+ years of recent experience in a veterinary practice with increasing responsibilities
