Veterinary Assistant

Responsibilities

• Greet clients and patients, obtain vital signs, and record patient histories in the electronic medical record (EMR)
• Assist veterinarians and technicians with routine and emergency appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia
• Perform patient restraint and assist in the preparation and monitoring of patients during anesthesia and recovery
• Obtain and process laboratory samples and handle/dispense medications under veterinary direction
• Provide client education, relay test results, and manage appointment scheduling
• Maintain a clean and organized hospital environment following established maintenance schedules
• Provide backup telephone and front desk support as needed

Requirements

• 1-year of veterinary practice experience preferred (or sufficient relatable animal care experience)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Compassionate and sympathetic demeanor with the ability to remain professional in stressful situations
• Proficiency with telephone and computer systems
• Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 30 pounds as necessary
