Veterinary Assistant

Responsibilities

• Provide excellent medical care to Vetco Total Care patients and exceptional customer support to pet owners.
• Greet clients, obtain patient weights and vital signs, and document histories in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Assist veterinarians and technicians with routine and emergency appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia.
• Perform patient restraint, process laboratory samples, and handle/dispense medications under veterinary direction.
• Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures and assist in monitoring patients under anesthesia and during recovery.
• Perform in-hospital treatments including administering oral, injectable, and intravenous medications.
• Maintain a clean and organized hospital environment following established maintenance schedules.
• Provide backup telephone and front desk support as needed.

Requirements

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Compassionate and professional demeanor, especially during emotional or stressful situations.
• Proficiency with telephone and computer systems.
• Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 30 pounds as necessary.
• Ability to bend and kneel to assist with patient care.

Preferred Qualifications

• At least 1 year of previous experience working in a veterinary practice.
• Relatable animal care experience that demonstrates proficiency in clinical skills.
