Veterinary Assistant

Responsibilities

• Provide excellent medical care to Vetco Total Care patients and exceptional customer support to pet owners.
• Greet clients and patients, obtain vital signs, and record patient histories in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Assist veterinarians and technicians with routine and emergency appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia.
• Perform patient restraint, process laboratory samples, and handle or dispense medications under direction.
• Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures and assist with anesthesia monitoring and recovery.
• Perform in-hospital treatments, including administering oral, injectable, and intravenous medications.
• Maintain a clean and organized hospital environment according to maintenance schedules.
• Provide backup telephone and front desk support as needed.

Requirements

• 1-year of veterinary practice experience preferred (or sufficient relatable animal care experience).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Compassionate and professional demeanor, especially during emotional or stressful situations.
• Proficiency with telephone and computer systems.
• Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 30 pounds as necessary.
• Ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced hospital setting.
