Veterinary Assistant

Responsibilities

• Greet clients and patients, obtain vital signs, and record patient histories in the electronic medical record (EMR)
• Assist veterinarians and technicians with routine and emergency appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia
• Perform patient restraint and obtain or process laboratory samples
• Handle and dispense medications under the direction of a veterinarian
• Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures and assist with anesthesia monitoring and recovery
• Provide in-hospital treatments, including administering oral, injectable, and intravenous medications
• Maintain a clean and organized hospital environment according to maintenance schedules
• Provide backup telephone and front desk support as needed

Requirements

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Compassionate and sympathetic demeanor with the ability to remain professional in stressful situations
• Proficiency with telephone and computer systems
• Strong team player mindset with a willingness to learn new techniques and accept change

Preferred Qualifications

• At least 1 year of previous experience working in a veterinary practice or relatable animal care experience
