Veterinary Assistant

Responsibilities

• Maintain hospital cleanliness by sweeping, mopping, removing trash, and handling laundry
• Assist in the setup of clinical procedures including X-ray, ultrasound, and surgery
• Stock medical supplies and clean kennels
• Wash and sterilize surgical equipment
• Provide animal restraint to assist Veterinarians and Technicians with blood draws, nail trims, health exams, and anesthetic procedures
• Administer vaccinations and injectable medications
• Perform occasional property maintenance such as snow shoveling or lawn mowing

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Veterinary Assistant
• Strong animal handling skills and the ability to properly restrain patients
• Knowledge of clinical procedures and the dexterity to administer medications
• Ability to lift 50 pounds independently and more than 50 pounds with assistance
• Demonstrated empathy toward clients and respect for animals
• Availability for occasional overtime, uncommon hours, and emergency recalls

Preferred Qualifications

• One year or more of experience working in a veterinary hospital
