About the role

Responsibilities

  • Create at least two fully developed neuroscience-focused lesson plans per year based on SNF Brain Insight Lecture topics.
  • Ensure all lesson plans are aligned with national and state-level education standards.
  • Archive all accumulated past SNF Teacher-Scholar lesson ideas in a centralized database.
  • Attend all scheduled lectures and seminars to assist with facilitation and peer-to-peer learning models.
  • Advise the Public Programs Manager on best practices for teacher professional development.
  • Assist with event setup and cleanup for seminars.
  • Provide additional scientific and educational resources as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of two years of experience teaching science at the high school level.
  • Excellent editing and organizational skills.
  • Availability for late afternoon and early evening sessions on select weekdays (including lectures at 6:30 pm and seminars from 4:30–6:30 pm).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior participation in the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Teacher-Scholar Program.
  • Exemplary experience in lesson plan development and curriculum design.
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum standards, including Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), NYS Content Specific Curriculum Standards, and Common Core.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of neuroscience content or experience teaching related fields.
  • Experience communicating science to a wide audience and familiarity with teacher training.
