Valvetrain & Timing Drive Design Release Engineer

Responsibilities

• Oversee the design, development, testing, and failure analysis of valvetrain and timing drive components for gasoline engines.
• Resolve technical issues related to camshafts, phasers, rocker arms, valves, timing chains, and tensioners through rigorous engineering analysis.
• Plan and coordinate test execution using DFMEAs and DVP&Rs, monitoring progress and results closely.
• Analyze test and measurement data to provide actionable recommendations and concise summaries to the engineering team.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Purchasing, Supplier Quality, Engine Plants, and Design to manage component release and cost-reduction initiatives.
• Travel to engine assembly plants and supplier sites as required.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in the design and manufacturing of powertrain components.
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes such as steel stamping, machining, grinding, and heat treatment.
• Proficiency in product development documentation, specifically DFMEA and DVP&R.
• Deep understanding of Mechanics of Materials, engine cam timing, CAE Analysis, and GD&T.
• Demonstrated ability to author clear technical requirements and perform structural failure analysis.
• Excellent project management, interpersonal communication, and presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Direct, specialized experience specifically with valvetrain or timing drive systems.
• Hands-on experience creating and executing comprehensive validation plans.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD software, preferably Siemens NX.
