Responsibilities

• Develop miniaturised vapour and UHV cells using microfabrication techniques, including integration of alkali sources and hermetic sealing processes
• Fabricate chambers using MEMS techniques, including testing innovations with active pumping and passive pumping
• Support the modelling of sealing and fabrication processes, ensuring simulation inputs reflect realistic geometries, materials, and manufacturing constraints
• Train other staff as needed

Requirements

• Degree (BSc/MSc/PhD or equivalent experience) in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related field
• Experience with vacuum system design, assembly, and operation (high vacuum or UHV)
• Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in building, assembling, or prototyping mechanical systems
• Strong understanding of vacuum-compatible materials and sealing techniques

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with microfabrication or precision manufacturing processes (e.g. bonding, MEMS, wafer-level techniques)
• Knowledge of hermetic sealing methods (e.g. anodic bonding, thermocompression, brazing, laser welding)
• Proficiency in data analysis, modelling, or automation
• Familiarity with alkali vapour cells
