Utility Plant Operator 2

Responsibilities

• Operate a steam generating plant safely and efficiently with a focus on preventative maintenance
• Test boiler water and manage chemical levels, including adjusting continuous and manual blowdowns
• Inspect and maintain water softeners, condensate return water, and cooling towers
• Perform repairs on steam, water, oil, and air leaks, and lubricate auxiliary equipment
• Conduct inspections and cleaning of boiler drums, fireboxes, condensate tanks, and deaerators
• Supervise plant operations on assigned shifts and make adjustments to the Niagara Energy Management System
• Perform maintenance on the outside steam system and operate pipe-threading machines for pipe fitting

Requirements

• One year of experience as a Utility Plant Operator 1 or one year of semi-skilled work in industrial/institutional utility plant systems
• Knowledge of utility plant systems, operation, and maintenance
• Knowledge of plant hazards and safety procedures
• Ability to read and interpret chart recorders
• Ability to operate and configure data loggers to collect and analyze data
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
