Utilities Superintendent

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of union utility operators, managing performance and setting clear expectations
• Ensure safe and efficient operation of wastewater treatment, boiler/steam, and water systems
• Maintain full compliance with environmental regulations, including NPDES wastewater permits and air requirements
• Coordinate staffing, scheduling, and training to ensure qualified operator coverage
• Administer work practices in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement (CBA)
• Partner with Maintenance and Engineering departments to support system reliability and maintenance activities
• Monitor and improve performance metrics related to safety, compliance, reliability, and cost
• Lead continuous improvement efforts regarding energy use, water efficiency, and overall system performance

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in utilities or manufacturing operations within an industrial environment
• Prior leadership experience is required; experience in a union environment is preferred
• Strong knowledge of wastewater treatment systems and environmental compliance (NPDES preferred)
• Hands-on experience with boilers, steam systems, and industrial water systems
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field is preferred (equivalent experience will be considered)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience managing labor relations within a unionized workforce
• Proven ability to make critical decisions in a fast-paced industrial environment
