About the role
Responsibilities
- Assist in the operation and maintenance of Municipal Utilities facilities and the water distribution system
- Record readings from meters, gauges, probes, and other equipment
- Recognize and evaluate potential operational or mechanical problems and advise supervisors
- Perform routine maintenance, minor repairs on operational equipment, and grounds maintenance
- Respond to water main breaks, water service calls, and other emergencies as directed
- Assist with customer service duties, including listening to and reporting complaints or inquiries
- Perform office duties and assist other city departments as assigned
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Iowa driver's license
- Ability to obtain a CDL Class B with airbrakes endorsement within one year of hire
- Physical ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds and move items up to 150 pounds with assistance
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and environments involving chemicals or noxious odors
- For Operator I: Possession of a Grade I Water Treatment or Water Distribution certificate issued by the Iowa DNR, or one year of combined experience in water system operation/maintenance
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in the operation and maintenance of a water distribution system or treatment facility
- Existing Grade I Water Treatment or Water Distribution operator certificate
