Upward Bound Advisor

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one academic, personal, career, and college counseling to students in Washington County
• Facilitate small and large group activities for program participants
• Recruit eligible students and work closely with target school staff and families
• Plan and implement regional outreach activities, including tutoring, college visits, and job shadows
• Oversee and train area tutors and mentors
• Support the residential summer program on the Bowdoin College campus

Requirements

• Associates or vocational/technical school degree in a relevant field
• Minimum of 2 years of experience working in education or youth development
• Effective writing and verbal communication skills
• Proficient computer skills, including social media, databases, and spreadsheet software
• Valid Maine driver’s license and ability to travel throughout Maine
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
• Prior experience working with families of low income
• Experience advising on financial aid and the college admissions process
• Experience coordinating group activities and supervising staff
• Familiarity with the Washington County region and area public school systems
