Upward Bound Advisor

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one academic, personal, career, and college counseling to students in Washington County
• Facilitate small and large group activities and training sessions
• Oversee and train area tutors and mentors
• Partner with target school staff and families to identify and recruit eligible students
• Plan and implement regional outreach activities, including tutoring, college visits, mentoring, job shadows, and cultural enrichment
• Support the residential summer program on the Bowdoin College campus

Requirements

• Associates or vocational/technical degree in a relevant field
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in education or youth development
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency in computer skills, including social media, presentation, database, and spreadsheet software
• Valid Maine driver’s license and ability to travel frequently throughout Maine
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
• Prior experience working with families of low income
• Experience advising on financial aid and the college admissions process
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate group activities and supervise staff
• Familiarity with the Washington County region and area public school systems
