University Police Sergeant

Responsibilities

• Provide first-line supervision of sworn and non-sworn personnel on assigned shifts
• Patrol university property and adjacent areas to ensure a safe and secure environment
• Exercise police powers in the detection and apprehension of law violators and investigation of crimes
• Manage scheduling, time off requests, and performance evaluations for subordinate officers
• Ensure all evidence gathered meets chain of custody and accreditation standards
• Maintain order at special events and enforce state motor vehicle laws and university regulations
• Conduct accident and crime investigations and prepare detailed, accurate reports
• Assist command staff in establishing procedures and making recommendations for departmental improvements
• Act as a Campus Security Authority in compliance with the Clery Act and other federal mandates

Requirements

• 3 years of progressive law enforcement experience as a full-time sworn police officer
• Successful completion of a Massachusetts Basic Police Training Program (or equivalent)
• U.S. citizenship
• Valid driver's license and ability to obtain a valid MA driver's license
• Valid Massachusetts License to Carry (LTC)
• Ability to pass a background check, psychological evaluation, and drug screening
• Ability to re-qualify with departmentally issued firearms and non-lethal weapons
• Ability to work at any hour and in all weather conditions

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree
