About the role

Responsibilities

  • Review written records and available controls
  • Monitor subordinates’ compliance in adhering to required face to face contacts and visits
  • Ensure that appropriate assessment is completed and service plans are formulated within required timeframes
  • Provide ongoing training and guidance to casework staff to ensure case practice requirements are met
  • Assist staff in managing workload and facilitating workflow with internal and external units
  • Monitor subordinates’ time, leave, and job performance
  • Develop and support staff and take appropriate disciplinary measures as needed
  • Conduct weekly conferences and review work with subordinates
  • Document case consultation in records and ACRS+
  • Make field visits for investigation or consultation as needed
  • Maintain accurate unit coverage and caseload counts

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
  • 24 semester credits in social work, psychology, sociology, human services, criminal justice, education, nursing, or cultural anthropology
  • 30 semester credits toward a Master of Social Work or a related graduate degree
  • 18 months of child protective casework experience
  • Must be permanent in the Civil Service title listed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven managerial or supervisory accomplishments in child protection or human services
  • Master of Social Work degree
  • Knowledge of NY State Connections case management system
  • Familiarity working with NYC’s diverse communities
  • Bilingual ability (Spanish or other languages)
