Unit Director (Immigration Unit)

Responsibilities

• Supervise four staff attorneys and two paralegals
• Provide task supervision to one social worker
• Maintain a limited caseload representing immigrants in federal administrative bodies, family court, and federal courts
• Collaborate with the City-wide Director of Immigrant Justice on litigation strategy
• Manage grant reports and assist with grant proposal writing
• Represent the organization at community events and stakeholder meetings
• Foster grassroots and community partnerships

Requirements

• Admitted to the New York State Bar
• Five years of experience practicing immigration law
• 1-3 years of experience supervising others
• Experience representing clients before EOIR and BIA appeals
• Experience working with trauma-affected and vulnerable populations
• Strong organizational, analytical, and advocacy skills
• Commitment to social justice and racial equity

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with federal court litigation and habeas corpus petitions
• Admission to SDNY or EDNY
• Experience leading interdisciplinary, trauma-informed teams
• Expertise in immigration consequences for criminal convictions and public benefits
• Fluency in a language spoken by the communities served
