Tunnelling Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design, plan, and oversee the construction of underground tunnels
• Manage technical aspects including soil and rock mechanics analysis and structural design
• Oversee construction processes and select appropriate excavation methods such as TBM or Sequential Excavation Method
• Monitor construction progress and ensure compliance with safety regulations
• Develop project timelines, cost estimates, and manage budgets
• Perform geotechnical investigations and design tunnel structures including lining systems and ventilation
• Coordinate with contractors, clients, and other engineering disciplines

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering
• SMSTS training (Mandatory)
• CSCS Card
• 3+ years of experience in underground environments working on Earth Pressure Balance Tunnel Boring Machines
• Previous experience acting as the Person in Charge (PIC)
• Proficiency in design software such as Plaxis or finite element analysis programs
• Strong understanding of soil and rock mechanics principles

Preferred Qualifications

• IOSH Managing Safely in Construction certification
