Tunnelling Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design, plan, and oversee the construction of underground tunnels
• Manage technical aspects including soil and rock mechanics analysis and structural design
• Select appropriate excavation methods such as TBM or Sequential Excavation Method
• Monitor construction progress and ensure compliance with safety regulations
• Coordinate with contractors and other engineering disciplines
• Develop project timelines, cost estimates, and manage budgets
• Perform geotechnical investigations and design tunnel structures including lining systems and ventilation
• Utilize specialized software for numerical modeling and stress analysis

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
• SMSTS training (Mandatory)
• CSCS Card
• 3+ years of experience in underground environments working on Earth Pressure Balance Tunnel Boring Machines
• Previous experience acting as the Person in Charge (PIC)
• Strong understanding of soil and rock mechanics principles
• Proficiency in relevant design software

Preferred Qualifications

• IOSH Managing Safely in Construction certification
