Trust & Estates Paralegal

Responsibilities

• Prepare initial drafts of wills, trusts, durable powers of attorney, and advance directives for attorney review
• Assist with updates to beneficiary designations to coordinate with new estate planning documents
• Prepare U.S. Gift Tax Returns (Form 709) and state estate/inheritance tax returns
• Monitor deadlines and manage organized paper and electronic files for numerous estates
• Coordinate with clients to assemble information needed for probate or administration
• Prepare documents to commence the probate process and facilitate court appearances
• Arrange for appraisals of real estate and tangible personal property
• Use valuation software to value marketable securities
• Assist in the funding of marital and non-marital trusts and the transfer of assets
• Perform legal research, records research, and maintain attorney calendars

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or certificate in a paralegal studies program
• Previous experience in estate planning and administration preferred
• Ability to interact professionally with clients and outside advisors
• Strong communication, teamwork, and proofreading skills

Preferred Qualifications

• New Jersey Notary Public (New York Notary Public is a plus)
• Experience assisting attorneys with litigated matters, such as preparing petitions and judicial accountings
