Transporter/Messenger

Responsibilities

• Transport patients, supplies, equipment, medication, medical charts, and specimens in a timely and safe manner
• Assist caregivers in moving patients on and off various modes of transport
• Confirm patient identity using ID bands and ensure patients are appropriately dressed and covered
• Follow proper patient tracking procedures, including logging in/out and reporting delays
• Sort and deliver inter-office mail and packages accurately
• Maintain and redistribute rolling stock such as wheelchairs and stretchers
• Ensure transportation equipment is safe, clean, and properly positioned/locked when stationary
• Respond to codes for transport needs and notify staff of patient status changes or cancellations
• Practice effective and respectful communication and collaboration with all healthcare team members

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Ability to safely transport patients and medical equipment
• Previous work experience in a hospital setting is preferred
